Injustice with Shikhar Dhawan?: Mohammed Kaif questioned the appointment of KL Rahul as captain for Zimbabwe series

Former Indian batsman Mohammad Kaif has questioned the direct appointment of comeback making KL Rahul as the captain of Indian team for the Zimbabwe ODI series. Previously, Shikhar Dhawan has been opted as the skipper of Indian team for the recently happened West Indies series where India thrashed Windies by (3-0) in the fixture, while after delivering such a fabulous performance as a leader, Mohammad Kaif challenged the unfair appointment of KL Rahul as the skipper of Indian team.

He puts his opinion around the fact that Rahul will get plenty of practice before the Asia Cup if he even plays under the leadership of Shikhar Dhawan. Mohammed Kaif answered this question in a joint press conference before the first ODI against Zimbabwe.

He said, “The situation could have been avoided. You have asked a valid question. There might be a miscommunication, and the report of KL Rahul might have come late. He is going there for the Asia Cup, but he would have needed match practice before that. Somewhere, there might have been a miscommunication”.

Later he talked about the erupting discourse over the ODI format. “If Shikhar Dhawan was announced as the captain, so the team could have played under him, it would not have made any difference. “Jaisa hai waisa theek hai sir”, (it is perfectly fine with the way it is), there are so many formats right now, ODIs are perfect with the way they are. You play a 50-over World Cup, so the ODIs are important”.
