On Thursday, the Sports Minister of India – Anurag Thakur launched the Khelo India Winter Games by playing Cricket in the Snow. He was given a warm welcome at Tangmarg for being a first-class player during his time. He played in the snow and was delighted to have hit a six in the snow. The Winter Games will be held from February 10th to 14th. It is estimated that about 1600 athletes will be a part of the games in Gulmarg. There will be about 11 types of sports that would be played in this festival.
Some of the salient features of the festival are:
- 1500 players
- Participants from 29 states and union territories
- 11 Events and types of sports
- 6 – day event
- Biggest winter games event in the country until now

Anurag Thakur thanked the locals for their hospitality and support throughout his stay at Gulmarg. The snow and the winter chills have added a brand-new layer to the excitement and joy that the people feel. The whole country is trying to participate in the games as far as possible.
It is anticipated that the Khelo India Youth Games would add a big feather in the cap for the initiatives of the Indian government towards the promotion of Sports events and the number of athletes in the country.
