India’s Key Players Set to Shine in T20I Series Against Australia, Says Reema Malhotra

Reema Malhotra emphasizes the significance of Pooja Vastrakar, Deepti Sharma, and Shreyanka Patil as pivotal figures in India’s upcoming T20I series against Australia. Expectations rise high as fielding improvements become crucial for India’s performance, according to Malhotra.

Reema Malhotra, a former India cricketer, thinks Pooja Vastrakar, Deepti Sharma, and Shreyanka Patil will play a crucial role in the upcoming three-match T20I series against Australia. The series kicks off on January 5 at the DY Patil Stadium.

India’s recent T20I match ended in a 2-1 loss against England at the Wankhede Stadium. Although they secured consecutive victories in Test matches against England and Australia, India faced a tough 3-0 defeat in the ODI series against the team led by Alyssa Healy.

In the limited-overs matches played so far, Pooja, Deepti, and Shreyanka have been taking wickets for India. “In T20Is, batters need to perform, but bowlers are equally crucial for India. Shreyanka Patil showcased her skills in the two matches against England. Deepti Sharma has been consistently performing exceptionally well. She’s in fantastic form,” remarked Reema on JioCinema’s show ‘#AAKASHVANI’.

“I’d also like to highlight Pooja Vastrakar’s remarkable performance in the series. Her role in this T20I season will be vital for the team. Additionally, these three players can contribute well with the bat. So, a lot depends on their bowling performance,” added Reema.

India’s fielding has been a glaring issue, notably seen in the ODI series where they dropped many catches and had numerous misfields. Reema stressed the need to avoid repeating these mistakes and expects improvements in fielding during the T20I series.

“To defeat Australia, you have to outperform them in every aspect. India had some minor issues with batting and bowling, but I’m confident that can be fixed. They’ve been playing strongly; it’s about that last push to win.

“However, the main concern lies in fielding. In terms of fitness, the team has improved a lot. But dropping many catches in one game was a big mistake. These errors must not happen again. They need to trust themselves; that’s how they’ll get better,” remarked Reema.
