Indian Squad for T20 World Cup 2022: Jasprit Bumrah, Harshal Patel Return; Shami Named Standby

BCCI announced names for India Squad for T20 World Cup 2022, The fast bowling duo of Jasprit Bumrah and Harshal Patel have returned to the team

As BCCI announced names for India Squad for T20 World Cup 2022, the fast-bowling duo of Jasprit Bumrah and Harshal Patel have returned to the team. Notably, the forthcoming edition of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup will take place in Australia from October 16 to November 13.

On Monday, the Indian selectors met to discuss team selection and later announced the Indian squad. The announcement further says that Rohit Sharma will lead the side in a multi-nation tournament in Australia.

Talking about Mohammed Shami, he hasn’t played a single T20I match for India since he featured against Namibia in last year’s T20 World Cup. However, he has been kept as a stand-by player in the squad.

Again, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Arshdeep Singh maintained their places on the team. Axar Patel is selected as a replacement along with Yuzvendra Chahal.

For batting, the team consists of skipper Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul, Virat Kohli, and Suryakumar Yadav; two wicketkeepers in the form of Rishabh Pant and Dinesh Karthik; and two all-rounders in Hardik Pandya and Deepak Hooda.

Furthermore, in place of Bishnoi, Avesh and Ashwin, pacers Bumrah and Harshal got the nod. Axar, who replaced Jadeja conserved his spot. As for reserves, Deepak Chahar, Mohammed Shami, Ravi Bishnoi and Shreyas Iyer are selected.

“The fact remains that they have drafted Mohammed Shami as a standby for the World Cup which also goes to show that they may still have doubts about Bumrah and Harshal’s fitness. That’s why perhaps they want to keep Shami in the loop,” former national selector Saba Karim had earlier told SportStar.
