Indian Cricketers Who Violated ICC Standards and Paid the Price in Heavy Fines

Cricket is no longer a gentleman’s game. Here are few instances where Indian cricketers violated the ICC Code of Conduct and were fined heavily.

According to the ICC Code of Conduct, breaching the rules can result in severe fines. Players have frequently lost their temper and gotten themselves into trouble by violating the ICC Code of Conduct. Here are some examples of when Indian cricketers lost their cool and had to pay hefty penalties.

Rishabh Pant, Pravin Amre and Shardul Thakur

Rishabh Pant was involved in an incident in which he, along with Pravin Amre and Shardul Thakur, were penalised and fined. During an IPL game against the Rajasthan Royals in 2022, the Delhi Capitals trio of skipper Pant, coach Pravin Amre, and Thakur contested an on-field umpire call.

A high full toss was not ruled a no-ball, prompting Pant to summon his hitters, Rovman Powell and Kuldeep Yadav, to the bench and even send coach Amre on the field to challenge the decision.

Rishabh Pant and Pravin Amre were fined the entire match fee. Amre was even given a one-game suspension. Shardul Thakur was also fined 50% of his match fee.

MS Dhoni and Mustafizur Rahman

It was an unusual occasion when captain cool, MS Dhoni, lost his cool and was penalised 75% of his match fee. MS Dhoni pushed debutant Mustafizur Rahman after the latter attempted to come in between Dhoni and complete a run in a match between India and Bangladesh in June 2015. Rahman was observed doing the same thing as Indian starter Rohit Sharma. Mustafizur Rahman was penalised 50% of his match money as well.

Murali Vijay

Murali Vijay, the Indian opener, was fined despite the fact that he did not disrespect or criticise umpires. Vijay was fined for an unusual reason involving his emblem on the bat. According to ICC standards, the manufacturer’s emblem must be positioned inside the top 9 inches of the bat’s shoulder.

Virat Kohli

Virat Kohli, known for his aggressive demeanour, is unsurprising to see him on this list. The incident occurred in 2012, during a match against Australia, when Kohli was abused by a section of fans in the stadium. Kohli lost his calm and raised his middle finger to the audience. He lost half of his match fee as a result of the event.

Ishant Sharma

The tall Indian pacer was once embroiled in an altercation with two Sri Lankan hitters. Ishant Sharma screamed at a Sri Lankan batsman during a test match and even got into a dispute with wicket-keeper Dinesh Chandimal. Sharma was suspended for one match and fined 65% of his match fee.
