India Women’s U-19 Team Dances To Kala Chashma To Celebrate T20 World Cup Victory

The Indian team celebrated their historic title victory in the maiden edition of the ICC Under-19 Women’s T20 World Cup in a cinematic manner.

On Sunday, the Indian women’s U-19 cricket team made history by winning their first title in the inaugural ICC Under-19 Women’s T20 World Cup. They defeated England by seven wickets and made the country proud with their historic title win in South Africa. Not only Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Droupadi Murmu have congratulated the team on social media, but famous figures from all walks of life have done so as well. But it was the women’s U-19 team’s unusual celebration of their triumph that drew the most attention.

Just moments after claiming the championship, the India women’s U-19 cricket team joined the popular Kala Chashma trend and danced joyously to the song. The ICC and T20 World Cup’s official Instagram pages uploaded a video of their celebration, and the internet is enjoying it. They wear their victory medals and perfectly duplicate the song’s hook step while smiling deliriously. You can see a video of their impromptu performance here:

With over seven lakh likes, the video has inspired a deluge of users to acclaim the duo as ‘champions’. “Humari choriyaan choro se kam hai ke (our girls are no less than boys),” one of them said, quoting a popular line from the film Dangal. “Unbelievable performance by Team India,” said another.

Team India defeated England by seven wickets thanks to their focused bowling, batting, and fielding performances. They asserted that the opening game of the Under-19 Women’s T20 World Cup took place at Potchefstroom, South Africa. Titas Sadhu, a quick bowler for the squad in blue, Parshavi Chopra, an offspinner, and Archana Devi, a legspinner, all claimed two wickets as they bowled out England for 68.

While skipper Shafali Verma and Shweta Sherawat were caught early in the chase, it was Soumya Tiwari and Gongadi Trisha who took over the major batting duty and sparked off the team’s winning celebrations with 36 balls to spare. Soumya Tiwari scored 24 runs off 37 balls, while Trisha also scored 24 runs off 29 balls. Ryana MacDonald-Gay was England’s top-scorer of the day, scoring 19 runs off 24 balls before being caught out by Arachana Devi.
