
The Board of Control for Cricket stated on Tuesday that Indian all-rounder Washington Sundar has been ruled out of the three-match One-Day International series against Zimbabwe owing to injury.
The All-India Senior Selection Committee has picked Shahbaz Ahmed as Washington Sundar’s replacement in the series against Zimbabwe. Sundar had a shoulder injury while playing for his county in England. The first One-Day International (ODI) between India and Zimbabwe will be played on August 18 at the Harare Sports Club. KL Rahul will captain the team.
Shikhar Dhawan was slated to lead the side on their tour of Zimbabwe. However, now that KL Rahul has been cleared, the right-hander has been named captain, with Dhawan serving as his deputy. Earlier on July 30, the Indian squad for a three-match ODI series in Zimbabwe was declared.
Senior players including as Virat Kohli, Rishabh Pant, and Jasprit Bumrah were left out of the roster. Rahul Tripathi, who plays for Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Indian Premier League, was named to the ODI team following a strong showing in the 2022 edition.
In 14 games, he scored 413 runs at a 37.55 average and hit three home runs. He was his team’s second-highest run-getter. The coaching staff for India’s three-match ODI series against Zimbabwe has been disclosed.
VVS Laxman, an India icon and current director of the National Cricket Academy (NCA), will serve as head coach during the Zimbabwe trip. Rahul Dravid has been given a rest before the Asia Cup, which begins on August 27.
