In the match, with the career-best bowling of Arundhati Reddy (four wickets for 26 runs), India had reduced Australia’s score to 78 for four at one time at the WACA, but with the century of Annabel Sutherland (110 runs in 95 balls, nine fours, four sixes), the host team was successful in making a big score of 298 runs for six wickets.
Sutherland added 96 for the fifth wicket with Ashleigh Gardner (50), and 122 for the sixth wicket with Tahlia McGrath (56) to take the Australian side to a good aggregate. The Indian team surrendered 215 runs in 45.1 overs led by Mandhana’s batting, who made 105 off 109 balls supported by 14 fours and a six.
So long as Smriti was at the crease, India’s hopes of registering their second successive Test win were alive, but with her dismissal, the visiting team’s hopes of registering a consolation win also shattered.

Chasing the target, India lost the wicket of Richa Ghosh (02) in the fifth over, who was bowled by Megan Schutt. The team had high hopes for captain Harmanpreet Kaur (12 off 22 balls) and Jemima Rodriguez (16 off 11 balls) but both of them were disappointed. Senior batswoman Deepti Sharma also failed to open the account.

Arundhati bowled last match’s centurion Vol on an in-swinger while left-handed batsman Litchfield was caught behind by wicketkeeper Richa Ghosh on an outswinger. Arundhati then bowled all-rounder Alice Perry for 04 and then sent Beth Mooney for 10 who got caught by Richa. Thus the score for Australia, who had managed 58 runs without any wickets to 78 runs for four wickets.

Then, Sutherland and Ashleigh began playing with the innings. Aggression was the game for Sutherland from the start as she targeted the spinners by hitting two fours and a six off Deepti Sharma in the 40th over.
