IND vs PAK, T20 World Cup 2024: Does Azam Khan Deserve A Spot In Playing XI?

Pakistan’s new keeper-batter Azam Khan has become the most-talked-about player off-lately. He has been trending across various social media applications for all the wrong and controversial reasons. He has become the center of online trolling because of his performance and weight.

Azam Has Been Struggling On-Field Because Of His Fitness

Weighing in at over 125 kilograms, Azam Khan has been facing challenges with fitness on the cricket field. The online trolling reached new lows when a few fans displayed posters with harsh messages like “Azam Khan’t stop eating.” This instance clearly shows the relentless nature of the criticism he has been facing.

While his fitness has become an area of grave concern, on the other hand, his performances on-field (so far) have failed to justify his selection in the playing xi. However, the 25-year-old was backed by Pakistan’s captain Babar Azam for the team’s campaign opener in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024.

Azam Khan walked out to bat after Shadab Khan, who played a crisp cameo of 40 and got Pakistan’s innings on track. However, Azam Khan once again managed to shatter the hopes of the Pakistani fans as he was dismissed for a golden duck. He was trapped LBW by Nosthush Kenjige for a mere 0 runs.

Eventually, the Babar Azam-led Pakistan cricket team suffered a disappointing defeat at the hands of the USA. Azam Khan was visibly frustrated after being dismissed for a golden duck. He almost had a heated moment with a fan, who seemed to have mocked the Pakistani cricketer. Azam gave a deadly stare to the fan before he walked back to the dugout.

Well, the defeat against the USA has significantly dented Pakistan’s chances of making it to the Super 8s. The Babar Azam-led side will be facing the Men in Blue on June 9th in a high-voltage clash.

Ahead of the IND vs PAK match, Azam Khan’s selection in the playing xi has become a matter of debate in the cricket fraternity. Many even referred to the ‘nepotism’ debate around him as he is the son of former Pakistan captain Moin Khan.

Going by the current situation, Pakistan doesn’t have any other player on the bench for the middle-order. They have the services of a mystery spinner and an opener sitting on the bench. Therefore, the team will have to decide between Azam Khan, Imad Wasim, and Shadab Khan, depending on whose form is better, for middle-order.

So, the Babaz Azam’s side doesn’t have much of a choice in that category and Imad’s injury at the moment makes the selection a bit easier. Had Imad been fit, Iftikhar Ahmed could bat at the 6th position and Imad Wasim at the 7th position. Having said that, Rizwan behind the wickets is far better and more effective than Azam Khan.

Pakistan’s Predicted XI For IND vs PAK
