In IND vs NZ 3rd Test, the New Zealand team created history by whitewashing India in the three-match Test series. India has lost all three matches for the first time in a series of more than three matches at home. Till now India had played 65 series at home in which they had never faced such a defeat. India had to chase a target of 146 runs in the fourth innings at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai but Rohit Sharma’s team failed to do so, which has now also dashed their hopes of reaching the final of the World Test Championship.
IND vs NZ 3rd Test Overview
When the third day’s play started, Ravindra Jadeja, who opened the first innings, gave India a good start by dismissing Ajaz Patel and took five wickets in the second consecutive innings.
However, the Indian batsmen were disappointed once again and five batsmen of India had returned to the pavilion with a score of just 28. After this, Rishabh Pant, Washington Sundar, and Jadeja made a good effort but on the spin-friendly pitch of Wankhede, New Zealand’s spinners performed brilliantly and made history.
When India took a lead of 28 runs in the first innings, they had a good chance to get New Zealand out quickly on a spin-friendly pitch. After the initial success of Akash Deep, the Indian spinners also bowled well but Will Young’s half-century put New Zealand in a good position. Also, the short but important innings of Daryl Mitchell and Glenn Phillips helped New Zealand reach a score which was quite difficult on this pitch.
When India came to bat, they got the first blow in the form of Rohit. In the third over of that inning, he got caught by Phillips while trying to pull against Matt Henry. After this, there was a fall of wickets and good batsmen like Virat Kohli, Shubman Gill, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and Sarfaraz Khan returned to the pavilion.
However, after this Rishabh Pant made a good effort to counterattack by playing a half-century innings, but he could not succeed in taking the team to the target. Pant shared a 42-run partnership with Jadeja for the sixth wicket and after that, he shared a 35-run partnership with Washington. Then it seemed that India might reach the target but it did not happen.
Ajaz Patel took the most wickets from New Zealand, while Glenn Phillips got three wickets. Ajaz was also given the title of Player of the Match for his performance. Ajaz also opened his claws in both innings like Jadeja. He got five wickets in the first innings and thus he took 11 wickets in the entire match.
The biggest blow to India’s defeat has been their position on the World Test Championship table. Where they have reached the second position in the points table after this IND vs NZ series.
