IND vs AUS Match Highlights: The Indian men’s cricket team defeated Australia by 24 runs in the Super 8 match played on Monday at the Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium in Gros Islet, St. Lucia, to guarantee their place in the semi-finals of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024.
Sent to bat first, India scored 205/5 thanks to a storming innings from captain Rohit Sharma. With the West Indies scoring 205/4 back in 2010, this was the joint-highest score against Australia in T20 World Cup history.

India now leads Super 8 Group 1 after three straight victories. On Thursday, they will play the defending champions, England, in the semi-finals. For Australia to qualify for the top four, they will need Afghanistan’s defeat by Bangladesh in the other Group 1 Super 8 match.
India, the first-ever T20 World Cup winners, were asked to bat first and lost opener Virat Kohli early to Josh Hazlewood, but Rohit Sharma looked sharp and attacked the opposition.
Mitchell Starc gave up 29 runs in the third over after being smashed for four sixes and one four by the Indian T20 captain. Rohit became the first player in T20I cricket history to score 200 sixes after he smacked a six off Pat Cummins’ opening ball in the fifth over.
The Hitman carried on his spree after reaching his half-century in 19 balls. Nevertheless, Rishabh Pant, who was mainly a spectator on the other end, was deep in thought when he attempted to heave Marcus Stoinis for a maximum.

With Sharma scoring 78 of the 100 runs in just 52 balls, India completed their target. The captain of India appeared to be heading straight for a century, but Starc counterattacked and dismissed him for 92 off 41 balls.
In addition, Starc got rid of Suryakumar Yadav for a final score of 2/45, which helped limit India’s scoring pace. India’s vice captain Hardik Pandya, who finished with an undefeated 27 off 17, delivered a few late big knocks to secure the team’s highest score of the T20 World Cup 2024, 205.
Arshdeep Singh gave David Warner an edge in the opening over, giving the Australian chase a rough start. Suryakumar Yadav’s outstanding catch at slip completed the task.
But Australia quickly mounted a comeback, spearheaded by Mitchell Marsh and Travis Head, who quickly put up 81 runs for the second wicket.
While attempting to heave Kuldeep Yadav over a deep square leg, Marsh (37) left. Axar Patel, who was stationed nearby, grabbed the ball out of thin air that appeared to be meant to clear the ropes.
Glenn Maxwell appeared to be picking up where Marsh had left off, scoring quickly, until Kuldeep struck once more, this time bringing the batter’s stumps down. Marcus Stoinis was again easily removed by Axar, leaving Australia needing 65 runs from the final five overs.
In the 17th over, Jasprit Bumrah dismissed threat man Head (76), giving India the advantage. The Australian chase was completely deflated by the wicket.
