ICC Test Rankings: Joe Root, England’s leading batter, has returned to the summit of the ICC Test batting rankings following his strong showing at Lord’s. Root scored a purposeful 104 in the first innings before backing it with a solid 40 in the second innings, helping England to a 22-run win over India.

He surpassed his team-mate Harry Brook, who had led briefly but fell to No. 3 from a poor Test in which he scored just 11 and 23. New Zealand’s Kane Williamson benefited from Brook’s fall to slip into second position.
