ICC T20 World Cup Countdown: What Are England’s Chances?

Jos Buttler and his men will aim at a repeat of 2019 50 Over World Cup triumph

England has become one of the best white ball teams in recent times. After the retirement of Eoin Morgan, they named Jos Buttler as the new skipper. The explosive batter is one of the most destructive T20 batters in the world. The 2019 World Cup champions boast of a set of dashing batters and hence they have an enormous chance to win the cup this year.

Jos Buttler, Ben Stokes, Moin Ali, and Alex Hales are the senior batters who can go big at any point in time. They also have specialized big hitters such as Harry Brooks and Liam Livingstone on the team. It makes their team appear strong and balanced on paper.

Can England win the cup?

The strength of the team lies mainly in batting. They can chase any total with ease on their day because of their depth. However, consistency is a major issue that they lack and they will have to address this concern to perform better. England bowling has a variety to offer, with two left-arm pacers in the eleven. However, the unit does not look as threatening as it was during the 2019 World Cup.

Jofra Archer is the X Factor who is missing the lineup. The Jamaican-born England cricketer could have bought that extra pace and consistency to the team. In his absence, pacer Mark Wood has the duty to hit the deck hard and beat the batters with pace and bounce.

The 2019 World Cup win was special

If England wins the World Cup, it will be an impetus to the 50-over win they had in the 2019 ICC World Cup. The manner of the victory was questioned by several experts. A decision based on boundary count did not sit well with many players.

However, England has a golden chance to prove its critics wrong this time. They do not look as dominant as they were in 2019. But they still have the power and capacity to go through to the final. Can Buttler and co repeat the past heroics? Time will tell.
