Jasprit Bumrah is set to lead India in the upcoming T20I series against Ireland, marking a historic occasion as he becomes the 11th player to captain the Indian men’s cricket team in the shortest format. Learn about Bumrah’s journey to recovery, his return after injury, and his crucial role in the upcoming matches.

Jasprit Bumrah is gearing up to make history in the world of cricket as he gets ready to lead India in the upcoming T20I series against Ireland. This is a remarkable moment for Bumrah, as he becomes the 11th player in the history of the Indian men’s team to captain the side in T20Is.

The special occasion is likely to take place in the first T20I match, scheduled to happen in Dublin on Friday, August 18. Bumrah is making a comeback after recovering from an injury and hasn’t played for India since September 25, 2022. His last game for India was a T20I against Australia in Hyderabad. Unfortunately, he faced back problems after that game, leading to a major issue that prevented him from participating in the T20 World Cup 2022.

Bumrah was expected to return during the Indian Premier League 2023, but it didn’t happen as planned. This absence affected the Mumbai Indians significantly, as their bowling lineup struggled during the tournament. Bumrah underwent back surgery in New Zealand in March to address his persistent back problems. Since then, he has been working on his fitness and rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy (NCA).

His dedication and hard work have paid off, as he has been declared fully fit and ready for the Ireland series. Team India has already left for Ireland, and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) shared photos of some of the squad members on social media.

When Bumrah takes the field as captain, he will join the ranks of cricketing greats like Virender Sehwag, MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and others who have captained the Indian men’s team in T20Is. This is a historic milestone for Bumrah and a moment of excitement for cricket enthusiasts worldwide.
