In the MLC’s last league match, Seattle Orcas defeated Mumbai New York (MINY) by a two-wicket margin. The game was crucial for both teams since a win would have moved Michigan into the top two, whilst a loss would have kept Seattle in the top two. Despite the loss, Mumbai New York advanced to the playoffs, while the Orcas finished first on the points list and qualified for Qualifier 1.
MI New Yorkโs Batting
MI made a respectable start when given the opportunity to bat first, scoring 58 for 2 on the powerplay. Nicholas Pooran, MINY’s star hitter, played a fantastic knock, leading the team with 68 runs off 34 balls. His outspoken personality set the tone for the inning, putting the Orcas bowlers under a lot of pressure. Kieron Pollard also played an important cameo, scoring 34 runs in 18 balls to help MINY raise their total. Trent Boult’s fierce onslaught on the Orcas bowlers near the conclusion of the game, scoring 20 runs off only six balls, set off the real fireworks. MINY’s enormous total of 194 for 8 was reached thanks to his late assault.
Despite the fact that Harmeet Singh and Imad Wasim were superb with the ball, causing vital breaks and controlling the run rate, the Orcas’ bowlers had a rough day. Andrew Tye, who gave up 55 runs in four overs, was particularly pounded by the MINY bats.
Seattle Orcasโ Batting
The Orcas’ pursuit got off to a shaky start as their opener, Quinton de Kock, was eliminated after only 9 runs. Nauman Anwar, on the other hand, took command and sailed the ship with a brilliantly built half-century, scoring 51 runs off 30 balls. His crucial inning kept the Orcas in the game.
But it was Heinrich Klaasen’s stunning innings that really lifted the contest. The right-hander launched an assault on the MINY bowlers with great elegance and talent. Klassen got 26 runs off a Rashid Khan over before completing the competition’s first century in 41 balls. Despite losing partners at the opposite end, he finished with a score of 110 from 44 balls and remained unbeaten. Because of his striking, the Orcas were victorious.
