Tamil Nadu’s dynamic all-rounder, Shahrukh Khan, clinched a significant deal with IPL 2022 champions Gujarat Titans, securing a contract worth INR 7.4 crore during the IPL 2024 player auction in Dubai. Expressing his excitement, Shahrukh believes he has diligently worked on improving his strike rate against spin, a skill that he intends to showcase in the upcoming season.
Anticipating his role in the team, Shahrukh stated, “I think I’ll be playing at No. 6 or No. 7 for sure. The way Gujarat Titans have backed their players in the last two years, I am comfortable going there.” He addressed the feedback about his strike rate against spinners and affirmed, “People have told me that I have not got a good strike rate against spinners, so I have worked on it.”
Formerly part of Punjab Kings, Shahrukh, who played 33 games for them, is now eager to bat alongside the experienced South African batter, David Miller, in the Gujarat Titans setup. Expressing admiration for Miller, Shahrukh stated, “He is a guy who wins big games for his team, and to be playing alongside him is going to be great.”

Reflecting on his mindset shift post IPL 2023, Shahrukh acknowledged growth in his captaincy role in TNPL and emphasized backing players, a quality he values in the Gujarat Titans. He also shared improvements in his game, stating, “I have worked on the short ball a lot more. It’s been an area I needed to improve, and I have done that. There are other areas I need to improve like playing leg-spinners and left-arm spinners.”
While known for his big-hitting and batting prowess, Shahrukh expressed confidence in his off-spin bowling skills, emphasizing that it could be an added advantage for Gujarat Titans in IPL 2024. The move to Gujarat also reunites him with Tamil Nadu teammates B Sai Sudarshan, R Sai Kishore, and Vijay Shankar.
On a nostalgic note, Shahrukh credited Dinesh Karthik (DK) for guiding him into the Tamil Nadu team four years ago and shaping him as a finisher. He expressed gratitude for DK’s mentorship and concluded, “DK has always told me that the team comes first. He has taught me how to calculate and take the game forward.”
