GT Bowlers Leaked 664 Runs In Last 3 Matches, Concerns Raised For GT

GT bowlers are struggling in IPL 2025, conceding heavy runs before playoffs. Analyze their issues, Rashid Khan’s form, and expert suggestions for a comeback.

Despite a commanding IPL 2025 performance where Gujarat Titans (GT) became the first side to reach the playoffs, their bowling attack is leaking a lot of runs on their home ground and not taking many wickets the need of the hour. With GT bowlers leaking 664 runs in only three matches since the tournament mini-break, panic is building with the business end of the season looming large.

GT boasted an impressive record of eight wins in eleven games before the mid-season break. But since the return of the league, they have lost two of their last three matches. The most jarring statistic? Their bowling department has conceded 664 runs and taken just ten wickets from these matches. This has questioned the GT bowlers’ form and consistency seriously.

Sai Kishore Shines as Bowling Troubles Mount

Amid the collective slump in form, R Sai Kishore is a shining exception. He has grabbed at least one wicket in all three games played in recent times, demonstrating stability among the rest of the struggling bowling unit.

GT’s bowling unit has been praised by former Australia coach Tom Moody for consistent efforts by Kishore, but he pointed out that there have not been any effective bowling partnerships, making GT’s attack susceptible.

Lack of Partnerships Blighting GT Bowlers

Moody stressed that although bowlers such as Prasidh Krishna (23 wickets) and Mohammed Siraj have performed occasionally, the absence of rhythm and partnerships has kept GT from mounting pressure. “You require bowlers to be in sync in a partnership. Without partnerships, even good individual efforts get nullified,” he said.

Rashid Khan’s Miseries Aggravate GT’s Woes

Former India coach Anil Kumble identified GT’s slump in performance in the powerplay overs, blaming part of the problem on Rashid Khan’s slump, arguably the worst T20 stretch of his career. With Rashid struggling to pick early wickets, the bowling department is under more pressure from the word go.

Tactical Shift? Opening with Sai Kishore Could Be a Game-Changer

To introduce freshness and uncertainty, Moody proposed an experimental tactic beginning the innings with Sai Kishore. “It may provide GT with a different balance and tend to disturb early partnerships,” he explained. The thought is to employ Kishore’s control and variation in the early overs to unsettle the opposition’s strategy.

Time to Remain Unfazed, Not Panic

Although the recent setbacks, Moody encouraged GT not to panic and overreact. “This is not the time to freak out,” he emphasized. “The key is looking at what has been successful and addressing the holes quietly. Hold onto the confidence and culture that got you there.”

Kumble echoed the same views, stating GT must concentrate on their positives and the performances that took them to the top of the table. “Any team is good on paper. The variation lies in how the sides play in situations of importance. GT now needs to take it one game at a time,” he cautioned.

Final Push: GT Bowlers Need to Regroup for Playoffs

As GT enters the IPL 2025 playoffs, the focus will squarely be on the GT bowlers. If they can get back their rhythm, build crucial partnerships, and augment standout performers such as Sai Kishore, the Gujarat Titans can still be true to their championship potential.
