Australian pace legend Brett Lee sees a striking resemblance between emerging speedster Lance Morris and the early days of current Australia skipper Pat Cummins. Morris, last year’s Bradman Young Cricketer of the Year, has now secured a call-up to Australia’s Test squad for the first Test against Pakistan in Perth from December 14.

Brett Lee, comparing Morris to a young Cummins, shared, “He reminds a lot of a young Pat Cummins. That’s a massive rap because ‘Cummo’ first came & burst on the scene back when he was about 17 years of age as the boy from Penrith with big blue eyes who was excited to bowl fast. He was like a sponge.”

Intrigued by Morris’s excitement for cricket and his understanding of the game, Lee expressed optimism about the young pacer’s potential, despite acknowledging the stiff competition from Cummins, Josh Hazlewood, and Mitchell Starc.

“I’m super impressed, he’s got a big career ahead of him. What’s going to happen this year though? I’m not sure because there’s three guys ahead of him that are doing a great job,” mentioned Lee at Fox Cricket’s season launch event.

While acknowledging Morris’s talent, Brett  Lee emphasized the need for patience, considering the formidable trio of Cummins, Hazlewood, and Starc leading the pace attack. Lee drew parallels to his own experiences, stating, “You’ve got to take wickets and bowl quick.”

In praising the experienced trio, Lee highlighted the unique strengths of Starc, Cummins, and Hazlewood, recognizing their significance in the Australian lineup. Despite Morris’s promising potential, breaking into the team requires a blend of youth and experience.
