Faf du Plessis is having a fantastic season with the bat in IPL 2023 and will seek to maintain that when the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) play the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on Wednesday, April 26 at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.

It’s worth mentioning that he hasn’t exactly lit up the stage in previous IPL matches versus KKR. Having said that, he has played some excellent innings against the two-time champions, although for his former team, the Chennai Super Kings (CSK).

86 off 59 in Dubai, IPL 2021 Final

The current RCB captain adored confronting the KKR onslaught in 2021. He saved his best for the most appropriate occasion: the tournament final at the Dubai International Stadium, which marked his 100th participation in the IPL.

CSK were requested to bat first and record a total large enough to negate the influence of dew later on. Another strong 61-run opening partnership got them started, and the South African veteran held the innings together. With Sunil Narine keeping things tight, du Plessis took it upon himself to accelerate at the midway mark, particularly liking Lockie Ferguson.

He batted his way through the innings, with Robin Uthappa and Moeen Ali providing important support. Du Plessis was caught off the last ball of the game for a remarkable 59-ball 86, which helped CSK finish with 192. The Super Kings won the trophy for the fourth time after KKR fell 27 points short.

In fact, it would be his final appearance in CSK yellow before RCB won the race to sign him in the player auction the following year.


95 off 60 in Mumbai, IPL 2021

The prior match that year between CSK and KKR saw the Super Kings bat first on a belter of a surface at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium. Gaikwad and du Plessis were at it again, maximising the powerplay and pocketing 54 runs.

Varun Chakravarthy sent Gaikwad back in the 13th over, breaking their 115-run opening stand. After a strong start, Du Plessis slowed down in the middle overs, but picked up pace towards the end and accelerated against pace.

He had a chance to get his first IPL century but fell five runs short. He was named Player of the Match after being unbeaten on 95 runs as the Super Kings won by 18 runs.


43 off 30 in Abu Dhabi, IPL 2021

Throughout IPL 2021, Du Plessis was in spectacular form, having developed a powerful opening partnership with Ruturaj Gaikwad for CSK. KKR posted 171/6 against the Men in Yellow at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi, led by Rahul Tripathi’s 45 and cameos from Nitish Rana and Dinesh Karthik.

In response, the Super Kings got off to a fast start, with Gaikwad and du Plessis putting on a 74-run opening stand. The latter was at his best, hitting the ball all over the park for joy on his way to a 30-ball 43.

Despite his expulsion, Ravindra Jadeja’s cameo guaranteed that CSK won despite KKR prolonging the game until the final delivery.
