In world cricket, there are dozens of terms which naive fans and followers can’t understand at the first sight. But these terms have significant importance when it comes to getting an insight about the key gestures in the sport. Recently many international cricket boards approached ICC for changing a few critical terms of the game, which is impossible to perceive at the first time. But the ICC, due to certain reasons, denied their request and resumed the continuation of these words. In such a set of orders one glorified term in cricket is ‘Duck’. A batsman is only called as a Duck when he gets dismissed on zero without scoring any run in his innings.
But further mention are the two more subcategories of this term which is Golden duck and Diamond duck.
These two vocables are highly identical but still the difference between the duo has to be understood.
#1. What is a ‘Golden Duck’?
A batter is called a golden duck when he is dismissed on the score of zero or without scoring any run, but after facing at least one ball. The patterns of dismissals like Caught behind, Catch out, Bowled and LBW are the factors to which batsmen are highly susceptible for getting knocked out on a golden duck in any format of world cricket.
#2. What is a ‘Diamond Duck’?
‘Diamond Duck’ is when a batsman gets dismissed on the score of zero, but without facing a single ball in his whole batting innings. This is a very rare instance that happens with the batsman and also considered as unlucky when a player gets out in this style. Usually run outs are the major cause behind dismissing the batsman on a Diamond duck. So, it’s a very important thing while playing any form of world cricket to keep these shameful records from being registered in the name of any batsmen.
