ENG vs AUS: On Tuesday, September 10, the England and Wales Cricket Board released an official press release, announcing their playing XI for the 1st T20I match against the Australian cricket team a day ahead of the much-awaited Test match.
The first of the three-match series between England and Australia will take place on Wednesday, 11 September, at the Utilita Bowl in Southampton.
Phil Salt Will Lead The England Side In 1st ENG vs AUS T20I
Jordan Cox, Jacob Bethell, and Jamie Overton have received their maiden call-up for the upcoming 1st T20I match, which is set to take place on September 11, at 11 PM IST at the Ageas Bowl in Southampton. The England side will be captained by KKR opener Phil Salt.
Phil Salt will be accompanied by Will Jacks, who has been named as the second opener in the first game of the series.
At No.3, young Jordan Cox will come out to bat. The right-hander has been one of the most talented youngsters going around in the England domestic circuit. Star all-rounder Liam Livingstone will be playing at No.4 and he is expected to play a crucial role for the team with both bat and ball.
Sam Curran will be an all-rounder alongside debutant Jamie Overton. While Adil Rashid will be handling the spin bowling duties for the England cricket team, he will have the backing of Livingstone and Jacob Bethell. Jofra Archer, Saqib Mahmood, and Reece Topley are the three front-line pacers in the England XI for the first T20I match against Australia.

Jamie Overton:
Overton, who is a seam-bowling all-rounder who was added to the squad after captain Jos Buttler, was ruled out of the T20I series because of a right calf injury. Overton will be making his debut as a specialist batsman as he continues his recovery from a back stress fracture.
Jordon Cox:
Jordan Cox has been in sensational form, showcasing his exceptional batting skills across various formats. His recent performances, including a brilliant double-century in County cricket and consistent contributions in T20 leagues, have firmly established him as one of the most promising young talents in the game.
Jacob Bethell:
Jacob Bethell will also be making his debut for the national cricket team in the 1st T20I match against Australia. The 20-year-old is one of the most consistent performers in the domestic circuit. He impressed one and all with his stunning performances in The Hundred, because of which he was awarded the T20I cap.
Jos Buttler Ruled Out Of ENG vs AUS T20I Series
It has to be noted that England’s white-ball captain Jos Buttler was ruled out from the upcoming T20I series against Australia. He could also miss the upcoming five-match ODI series that followed right after the T20I series. Buttler took to his Instagram to share his frustration over the injury. He wrote:
“Frustrating to have a setback with the injury but working hard to get it right.”
