Great batsman of Australia Don Bradman‘s Baggy Green was auctioned at a staggering price of Rs 2.63 crore. The highest-ever bid in connection with anything cricket, as cricketing fans have sold Bradman’s Baggy Green to the fullest extent.

Australian legend Don Bradman’s ‘Baggy Green’ Test cap from the 1947-48 series against India was sold for $390,000 (Rs 2.14 crore), which increased to $479,700 (Rs 2.63 crore) after the auction fee. This cap is considered to be the only known ‘Baggy Green’ worn by Bradman during the series, which has great historical significance. Bradman’s performance in the 1947-48 series was nothing short of extraordinary.

During his last Test series on Australian soil, the Australian skipper had scored 715 runs in just six innings with an average of 178.75, including three hundred and a double century. The auction house, Bonhams, that was managing the auction termed the cap as a ‘unique piece of history and inextricably linked with Bradman’s fabulous career’.

According to a Fox Sports report, Bradman passed the cap on to Indian tour manager Pankaj ‘Peter’ Kumar Gupta.

The auction lasted for just 10 minutes, but collectors bid heavily to buy this precious heritage. When the final bid was made, the cap was bid at $390,000, making it one of the most expensive cricket memorabilia ever sold. Bradman is considered the greatest batsman of all time, having scored 6996 runs in 52 Test matches, including 13 half-centuries and 29 centuries.

The all-time legendary batsman has the highest number of double centuries recorded at 12 and equalled the highest triple century at 2. In the Baggy Green, for Bradman, lies the cricketing career that cannot be matched in history.

The all-time highest batting average in Test cricket stands at 99.94 by Don Bradman, a benchmark that will remain indelible in cricket. His ability to dominate bowlers in an era of open pitches and limited protective gear made him a sporting icon. He died in 2001 at the age of 92.
