He signed on with Leicestershire, where his talents were precious in Twenty20 cricket. He continued to play sporadic one-day cricket for India, appearing in four games throughout the six months from September 2006 to March 2007. He was chosen for the team to tour Bangladesh in May 2007 following India’s humiliating World Cup exit, which he was not a part of. Mongia then transferred his talents to the Chandigarh Lions in the ICL. However, the unofficial league suspended him in October 2008. After that, the BCCI granted amnesty to the ICL players, although Mongia hasn’t participated in an official match since.
