After hurting himself during a practice match on Friday, pacer Dilshan Madushanka has been ruled out of Sri Lanka’s campaign for the next Asia Cup, while another fast bowler, Lahiru Kumara, is probably not going to be ready for the continental competition.
According to a source on ESPNCricinfo, Madushanka tore an oblique muscle during the practice match and may be struggling to get healthy in time for the Men’s ODI World Cup, which runs from October 5 to November 19 in India. Professor Arjuna de Silva, the chairman of the SLC’s medical committee, made this statement.
It also mentioned that Kumara had a side strain, which is a common issue in his situation. He might be absolutely ruled out of the Asia Cup due to the length of his recovery from the injury. The two are added to Sri Lanka’s injured list together with Wanindu Hasaranga and Dushmantha Chameera.
In addition to previously being ruled out of the Asia Cup, the report stated that Chameera has a pectoral injury that makes him questionable for the start of the World Cup as well. Leg-spinner Hasaranga, on the other hand, is recovering from a grade two thigh strain.
“And may not play a part in the Asia Cup, depending on the speed of his recovery as well as Sri Lanka’s longevity in the tournament. It appears unlikely that he will play a role in the group stage, in any case,” it further said.
In terms of getting ready for the Men’s ODI World Cup, Sri Lanka will face difficulties without Kumara, Chameera, and Madushanka. Sri Kasun Rajitha, Pramod Madushan, and Matheesha Pathirana could be called upon if the three is not present.
Leg-spin all-rounder Dushan Hemantha and left-arm spin all-rounder Dunith Wellalage are candidates for the call-up in Hasaranga’s absence. To advance to the Super Four round of the championship, Sri Lanka will play its opening Asia Cup game against Bangladesh on Thursday before taking on Afghanistan on September 5.
