
Dilip Vengsarkar was one of the key player in the Indian batting line up in the late 70s and early 80s. He is a former Indian cricketer as well as a successful cricket administrator. The cricket player was a member of the victorious Indian team that competed in the 1983 Cricket World Cup.
However, his best years were 1985–1987 when he scored multiple centuries against formidable opponents like Sri Lanka, the West Indies, Australia, and Pakistan. Later the 1987 World Cup Cricket tournament, Dilip Vengsarkar successfully led the Indian cricket team as captain for several matches, that include ten Tests. At Calcutta during the 1978-79 Test Series between India and the West Indies, he partnered with Sunil Gavaskar to score more than 300 runs.
Despite criticism that he missed the semi-final match due to a seafood allergy, Vengsarkar succeeded Kapil Dev as captain after the 1987 Cricket World Cup. The player went on to play until 1992. In 1995, post retiring Vengsarkar founded the Elf-Vengsarkar Academy.
