Dewald Brevis signed by CSK (Chennai Super Kings) as a replacement for injured Gurjapneet Singh for the rest of the IPL 2025 season. The news is a huge relief for the struggling franchise, which is sitting at the bottom of the points table.
Dewald Brevis Signed by CSK for INR 2.2 Crore
CSK has officially confirmed that the 21-year-old Dewald Brevis will be joining the team for INR 2.2 crore, the same price at which Gurjapneet Singh was bought earlier in the auction.
The young batsman, with a batting similarity to AB de Villiers, earning him the nicknames ‘Baby AB’, adds explosive batting punch and a mix of left-arm spin and right-hand batting to the CSK playing eleven.
Brevis’ Impressive T20 Track Record

Brevis has already made an impact on international T20 leagues. With a top score of 162, he has scored 1,787 runs in 81 T20 matches. He represented Mumbai Indians (MI) during IPL 2022 and IPL 2024, and lately participated in MI Cape Town, winning the SA20 League title with an 18-ball 38 in the last game. He finished the tournament as the sixth-highest run-scorer with 230 runs at a phenomenal strike rate of 184.
Brevis has also featured in CPL and Major League Cricket (USA), showcasing his increasing stature in franchise cricket across the world.
From Auction Snub to CSK Opportunity
Brevis was taken into the IPL 2025 auction by a base price of INR 75 lakh, but surprisingly went unsold. Still, a consistent run in domestic cricket, such as being the second-highest run-scorer in South Africa’s one-day and first-class tournaments, kept him in the limelight. Now, CSK has grabbed the chance to include him in their team.
Gurjapneet Singh Ruled Out Without Playing a Match
Gurjapneet Singh, the talented Tamil Nadu fast bowler, was bought by CSK for INR 2.2 crore but failed to play even a single match before incurring an injury that kept him out for the season.
CSK’s Troubles in IPL 2025 Continue

With only two victories from seven games, CSK is having a hard time this season. The side was also rocked earlier when habitual skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad was out due to an elbow injury, forcing MS Dhoni to step back into command.
Dewald Brevis, who has been signed by CSK, is a shrewd signing that might turn the fortunes of the franchise around. With his attacking batting and international experience, Brevis might just be the catalyst CSK require to turn their IPL 2025 season around. The fans will now be keen to watch how the young South African performs in the yellow jersey.
