In a rain-hit Delhi Capitals vs Sunrisers Hyderabad IPL 2025 match at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, the weather was the ultimate spoilsport, mathematically ruling out SRH from a spot in the playoffs.
With Delhi Capitals having a total of 133/7, it was abandoned because the rain fell before Sunrisers could start their chase. After time passed and the outfield was not recovering in time, no further play was possible, and it was tied.
Cummins Masterclass Rocks DC Top Order Early

SRH captain Pat Cummins displayed a masterclass with the new ball, striking thrice in his first 19 balls to dismantle the DC top order. The Rajiv Gandhi pitch was grassless and notorious for its inconsistent bounce, which suited Cummins to a tee. His ability to be able to hit a hard length very consistently proved useful as he dismissed Karun Nair’s first ball and took three wickets in total.
With Ishan Kishan assuming wicketkeeping responsibilities for the first time this season, he retained three crisp catches – all off Cummins – as a remarkable performance behind the wickets.
DC Collapse: 29 for 5 by the Eighth Over
The order collapse at the top persisted with Harshal Patel and Jaydev Unadkat further taking wickets of Delhi. Unadkat’s dismissal of KL Rahul, who edged a full-length ball directly to Kishan, displayed the challenge of shot-making on this surface. With that, Kishan became the first wicketkeeper in IPL history to catch all the top four batsmen in an innings.
Stubbs and Ashutosh Revive Delhi Capitals

From a desperate 29/5, Tristan Stubbs and Ashutosh Sharma engineered a badly needed comeback. Stubbs initially constructed a small stand with Vipraj Nigam before Nigam was run out in a mix-up. He then discovered a trusty partner in Ashutosh, who was brought in as an Impact Player.
Ashutosh’s 41 off 26 balls, with three sixes, drove DC to a decent 133/7. Stubbs was left on 41 off 36 deliveries, taking the innings to a good finish with 61 runs in the last six overs.
Rain Douses SRH’s Hopes

The moment DC’s innings finished, heavy rains swept in, putting an end to any developments in the match. No amount of ground staff attempts changed the fact that field conditions remained unplayable until the final cut-off time of 11:42 PM.
With the match being a no-result, Delhi Capitals picked up a crucial point that might decide playoff qualifications, while Sunrisers Hyderabad were formally eliminated from playoff contention.
Points Table Impact
Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH): SRH now has only three matches left and can now at best achieve 13 points—no longer sufficient to qualify for the top four, since four teams are already on 14 or higher.
Delhi Capitals (DC): The washout point brings DC to 13 points from 11 games, firmly in the running for a playoff spot.
A Twist in the Playoff Race
The Delhi Capitals vs Sunrisers Hyderabad game was more about the struggle against the weather and less about the struggle on the field. Though Pat Cummins’ blistering spell was worthy of a better outcome, the rain took charge. The tied game could be the lifeline for Delhi Capitals to qualify for the IPL 2025 playoffs.
