
Deandra Dottin, a West Indies all-rounder, announced her retirement from international cricket on Monday. The announcement came after Barbados was defeated by Australia by nine wickets in the ongoing Commonwealth Games. Dottin announced her retirement from international cricket in a lengthy statement on Twitter.
Dottin took to Twitter and wrote: “Please accept this letter as my formal resignation from the senior women’s West Indies team, which will take effect on August 1, 2022. This announcement came after much thought, as cricket has always been a passion of mine. When the fire goes out, however, it is necessary to reassess one’s commitment. Throughout my cricket career, I have had to overcome numerous obstacles; however, the current climate and team environment have been detrimental to my ability to thrive and reignite my passion.”
“I realise, with great sadness but without regret, that I am no longer able to adhere to team culture and team environment because it has undermined my ability to perform excellently,” she added.

The 31-year-old has represented West Indies in 146 One-Day Internationals (ODIs) and 126 Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is). She made her debut in 2008 and is regarded as one of the most destructive players in the game’s history.
She scored 3,727 runs and 2,697 runs in ODIs and T20Is, respectively, and took 72 (ODIs) and 62 (T20Is) wickets.
