In a high-scoring DC vs KKR IPL 2025 match, Kolkata Knight Riders put up a fighting total of 204, but the innings was finished with a feeling of what could have been. Although they made a great comeback with Sunil Narine picking 2 crucial wickets in his 3rd over, the match went in favor of KKR. Sunil Narine’s 27-run knock and 3 wickets cost KKR a victory by 14 runs.
Explosive Start for KKR in Powerplay

KKR opened strongly at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, posting their second-highest powerplay total of the season with 79 runs from the first six overs. Opening duo Sunil Narine and Rahmanullah Gurbaz made the most of the batter-friendly surface, sharing a 48-run opening stand, their season’s highest opening stand. Ajinkya Rahane joined the early run flow, enabling KKR to sprint to 111 for 3 by the ninth over.
Delhi Capitals Regain Control Through Spin

Despite the flat deck, the introduction of spin turned the game in Delhi’s favor. Axar Patel, who initially held himself back due to Narine’s left-handed dominance, entered after Narine’s dismissal and delivered a game-changing spell. He bowled four consecutive overs for just 27 runs, claiming the key wickets of Rahane and Venkatesh Iyer with deliveries that didn’t grip but skidded straight on.
Middle-Over Consolidation: Raghuvanshi and Rinku’s Stand

In a mid-innings wobble for KKR, Angkrish Raghuvanshi and Rinku Singh regained the ship’s balance. Their 61-run stand off 7.3 overs kept the scoreboard moving without taking unnecessary risks. The duo focused on Kuldeep Yadav, taking 27 runs from his three overs, but their measured approach denied Andre Russell as many deliveries, who was casting a shadow over the death overs.
Chaotic Finish: Starc and Chameera Apply the Brakes

While KKR, too, looked to explode in the final few overs, the bowlers for the Delhi Capitals executed their plans to perfection. Vipraj Nigam dismissed Rinku Singh in the 18th over, Dushmantha Chameera bowled wide yorkers in the 19th, and Mitchell Starc showed off his death-overs bowling by picking two wickets in the same over.
A quiet spell of no strike saw Russell silenced, and he was ultimately run out in the last over for a quick 17 off 9 balls. KKR could only produce 45 runs during the last five overs, a very different story from their dominating start. Three wickets were taken by Starc, instrumental in keeping KKR to 204.
DC’s fiery attempt to chase
In the top 4 order of DC, Faf Du Plessis played a great knock of 62 runs in 45 balls, building a partnership with the skipper, Axar Patel, who made 43 runs in 23 balls.

After Axar’s dismissal, DC’s batting went down the line with a sudden loss of 3 crucial wickets – Tristan Stubbs, Ashutosh Sharma, and the set vice-captain, Faf. From there, the DC fell short of scoring the needed runs, but Vipraj Nigam’s brave knock gave birth to some hope to the fans of Delhi Capitals. Although his cameo was short-lived and he got bowled in the last over by a yorker bowled by Andre Russel.
Sunil Narine’s game-changing over
Sunil already played a short cameo with the bat of 27 runs in the powerplay and got the crucial wicket of KL Rahul with a throw in the initial overs of the second innings.
Til the 13th over, DC was looking fine with Axar and Faf on the crease, but Narine gave a breakthrough for the team, picking the important wicket of captain Axar, who was already injured. Later in his last overs, he got the set batsman Faf, who was looking dangerous for DC, and Tristan Stubbs at an important stage.
Varun Chakaravarthy carried the momentum with him in his last over, dismissing the match-winning batsman of DC, Ashutosh Sharma.
