A viral video of the incident on social media reveals Munaf Patel having a heated argument with the fourth umpire. The reported reason for the argument was the umpire’s denial of permission to a DC player to enter the field and convey a message.
The incident took place at a critical point in the match, adding to the tension. The fans recorded and posted the video online, turning it into a popular controversy.
Breaches of Article 2.20 – Spirit of the Game

Munaf Patel accepted the Level 1 offence under Article 2.20 of the IPL Code of Conduct, relating to acts that are contrary to the spirit of the game. The sanction was imposed by the match referee, which is binding and final for Level 1 offences.
What Article 2.20 Covers:
Use of prohibited or non-conforming equipment
Non-compliance with match rules
Disrespectful or inappropriate behavior on or off the field
Offenses under Level 1 include a reprimand as a penalty, with fines up to 50% of match fees, and 1–2 demerit points depending on the seriousness of the offense.
DC Win Super Over Thriller Against RR
Despite off-field controversies, Delhi Capitals won a pulsating game against Rajasthan Royals in a Super Over and consolidated their place at the top of the IPL 2025 table.
DC’s next game is against Gujarat Titans on April 19 at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad.
