Delhi Capitals (DC) are expected to name a new captain for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 as Rishabh Pant continues to heal from the wounds he incurred in a terrible vehicle accident last year. One of the best batters in tournament history, David Warner, will probably captain Delhi in the forthcoming campaign. Warner’s deputy in the IPL 2023 will be Axar Patel, who has gotten better and better over the past year.
Pant will not participate in the 2023 IPL, according to former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly, who just joined DC as Director of Cricket Operations.
“Rishabh Pant will not be available for the IPL. I am in connection with Delhi Capitals. It will be a great IPL (for the team), we will do well but Rishabh Pant’s injury will affect the Delhi Capitals,” Ganguly told reporters in January this year.
Pant was named DC captain midway through the 2021 season after Shreyas Iyer suffered an injury. Pant was engaged in a car accident on his way home on December 30 and was brought to the hospital where he had surgery.
Meanwhile, on February 23, Sunrisers Hyderabad named South African cricketer Aiden Markram as the team’s new captain for the IPL 2023 season. In the recently concluded SA20, Markram not only led Sunrisers Eastern Cape to victory, but he also finished as the tournament’s third-highest run-scorer with 369 runs. Markram also took 11 wickets as a part-time bowler and was important in his team’s championship victory.
Mayank Agarwal, who captained Punjab Kings (PBKS) in IPL 2022, and Bhuvneshwar Kumar, one of the SRH team’s senior-most players, were also candidates for the captaincy position.
