Sunrisers Hyderabad, an Indian Premier League (IPL) team, announced on Monday that former New Zealand captain Daniel Vettori had been named head coach.
“Kiwi legend Daniel Vettori joins the #OrangeArmy as Head Coach. Welcome, coach!” Sunrisers made the announcement on Twitter.
Between 2014 and 2018, Vettori led Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) as their head coach. More recently, he worked as an assistant coach for the Australian men’s squad. Additionally, he has provided spin-bowling consulting services to the Bangladesh men’s team.
The 44-year-old has replaced West Indies star Brian Lara, who was named head coach of the Hyderabad-based club prior to the 2023 IPL season and accepted the role when former head coach Tom Moody left the squad. Lara was appointed before the franchise’s 2023 IPL campaign.
“As our 2 year association with Brian Lara comes to an end, we bid adieu to him. Thank you for the contributions to the Sunrisers. We wish you all the best for your future endeavours,” Sunrisers said in a tweet.
Lara served as SRH’s batting coach and strategic counsel throughout the 2022 campaign. He was given the opportunity to become the team’s head coach after Tom Moody left.
Sunrisers had four victories and ten loses in the 2023 edition, placing them last (tenth).
