On April 4, 1990, Irish cricketer Craig Alexander Young was born. Young bats right-handed and bowls right-arm medium speed. On May 26, 2013, Young made his first-class debut for Ireland against Scotland. He defeated Scotland in his maiden One Day International in September 2014, taking 5 wickets for 45 runs. He participated in his debut Twenty20 international game on June 18, 2015, against Scotland.
Young was one of the 19 players given a core contract by Cricket Ireland for the next season in December 2018. Nineteen players, including him, received central contracts with Cricket Ireland in January 2020. The first year that all contracts were awarded on a full-time basis was this one.
In September 2014, Craig Young demolished Scotland in Malahide to become the ninth bowler to take a five-for on a men’s ODI debut. Young was one of many players to emerge from Ireland’s dominant Under-19 sides from the early 2010s. It was a timely performance considering Young had recently lost his county contract with Sussex and converted it into a central arrangement with Cricket Ireland.

Young soon discovered that because of his Londonderry heritage, deadly pace, and bounce, he was being compared to Boyd Rankin. His career has unfortunately matched Rankin’s in that he has acquired the injury bug. Due to a series of fitness issues, Young has only started for less than half of Ireland’s ODIs since his debut. However, when he has been able to play, Ireland hasn’t had many more amazing stats. He has one of the greatest strike rates and lowest bowling averages among Ireland’s top ODI wicket-takers.

- Young was a football player and police officer in New South Wales. He was chosen as a prop for the NSW Police Team of the Century in 2008, the centennial year of Australian rugby league.
