In a heated bidding war during the IPL 2024 mini-auction, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) emerged victorious by acquiring New Zealand all-rounder Daryl Mitchell for a substantial Rs 14 crore. The fierce competition unfolded in the second round, with Delhi Capitals and Punjab Kings initially dominating the bidding.

Delhi Capitals initiated the bidding at Rs 1 crore for Mitchell, triggering intense rivalry with Punjab Kings. The stakes rapidly rose, breaching the Rs 3 crore mark. Mitchell, previously associated with Rajasthan Royals, became the focal point as the battle unfolded between Delhi and Punjab. Bids soared to Rs 5 crore, with Punjab Kings taking the lead.

The auction intensified as Delhi countered with a bold Rs 6 crore bid. The back-and-forth continued, reaching Rs 8.20 crore with Punjab Kings in the lead. In a surprising turn, Punjab reached Rs 9.40 crore, but Delhi responded aggressively, pushing the bid to Rs 11.50 crore.

Choosing to step aside, Punjab Kings handed over the bidding war to Chennai Super Kings. With a considerable purse, CSK swiftly escalated the bid to Rs 13.75 crore before making a bold move with a final bid of Rs 14 crore, successfully securing Daryl Mitchell.

Meanwhile, the auction commenced with Gujarat Titans bidding Rs 2 crore for Indian all-rounder Harshal Patel. The bidding quickly surged, reaching Rs 3.80 crore before Titans raised the stakes to Rs 4 crore. The competition intensified as both Titans and Punjab Kings fiercely competed, pushing the bid to Rs 5 crore, with Harshal entering the millionaire club.

Titans breached the 10-crore mark, and at Rs 11 crore, Lucknow Super Giants joined the bidding. In a decisive move, Punjab Kings reached Rs 11.75 crore, successfully acquiring Harshal Patel.

In other auction highlights, Mumbai Indians secured South Africa’s Gerald Coetzee for Rs 5 crore, while Punjab Kings bought England’s Chris Woakes for Rs 4.20 crore.
