Cameron Green is one of the most prominent Australian cricketers who represents the national team in all formats. His presence in the ICC World Test Championship Final against South Africa, scheduled for June 2025, was in doubt as he underwent major spinal surgery in October 2024 after being diagnosed with his fifth stress fracture in his lower back during Australia’s white-ball tour of England.
This recurring injury kept troubling him since his junior years, which led to the decision to stabilize his spine through surgery. His surgery was performed by renowned orthopedic surgeons in New Zealand. His recovery was said to take six months, ruling him out of the Australian summer, including the World Test Championship and Border-Gavaskar Trophy series against India.

However, his optimistic attitude about his fitness and recovery has confirmed his return. He aims to return as a batter only for the World Test Championship Final. Regarding his surgery, Cameron Green shared, “The surgery has been incredible. I think I was probably off [my] legs for about two weeks. And after that, I’ve been doing gym work for the last four or five months, been running for the last two months, been batting for the last month. It’s been pretty seamless. So, yeah, pretty happy I got it done.”
“It’s for the long-term goal of playing cricket for as long as I can. Bowling for as long as I can. I got it for that reason, solely. Obviously, I could have healed [the stress fracture] over nine months, but I took the option to get the surgery, and hopefully, fingers crossed, that’s the last of it, which would be nice.” he added
Regarding his return at the World Test Championship final, Cameron Green said, “I think we’ve got an ultra-successful top five, six, seven, so it’s never easy. But that’s where you want it to be in a Test team. You want someone to basically rise to the challenge, take that position for themselves, and that’s what’s been done. They’ve had another ultra-successful summer, and I was so happy watching. But at the same time, you always want to get back into the team. So we’ll wait and see what happens.”
His recent performances and fitness will be closely monitored as he aims to return in the WTC final and contribute to Australia’s success.
