The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024‘s full schedule is yet to be announced by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). While the full schedule is expected to be announced either on March 25 or the day after, the venues for the playoffs and the final clash have been confirmed.
The IPL 2024 final will be played in Chennai on May 26. The playoff matches will be played in Ahmedabad and Chennai. In the last season, Ahmedabad also hosted the final between Gujarat Titans (GT) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK).
DC and PBKS home game venues
Also, Rishabh Pant-led Delhi Capitals (DC) will play their last five home games at Arun Jaitley Stadium. DC’s other home games are scheduled to be played in Vizag. The reason behind DC’s home games scheduled away from home was curators needed time to prepare the pitch after the second leg of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2024 followed by the eliminator and the final were played in Delhi.
In addition, Punjab Kings (PBKS) will play two out of their seven home games in Dharamsala. The remaining five will be played in Mullanpur where they started their campaign with a convincing four-wicket win over DC on March 23.
Earlier, only 17 days of the IPL schedule was announced because dates for the General Elections were yet to be released.
A cricket source had earlier reported that the IPL Governing Council is reworking its first draft of the second phase of the ongoing season so as to avoid any potential clashes with the polling dates.
“The Election Commission of India announced the schedule of General Elections so we now know the exact dates. The work is underway on the remainder fixtures and we are reworking some fixtures from the first draft to avoid clashes with polling dates,” IPL GC chairman Arun Dhumal told this website.
Dhumal also reiterated that the board never thought of moving the IPL out of the country and that it will be held entirely in India.
BCCI had released the fixtures for the first two weeks of IPL 2024 last month and also had a draft prepared for the rest of the season. With the polling dates confirmed, the draft was modified and the schedule is set to be made public.
CSK started their title defense with an impressive six-wicket win over RCB while last year’s runners-up Gujarat Titans begin their campaign on Sunday when they host five-time champions Mumbai Indians.
