BCCI Alerts IPL Owners and Stakeholders: Corruption Risk Identified by ACSU

The Anti-Corruption Security Unit of the BCCI has shown red flags to a businessman with established connections to bookies and past corruption cases. The man has been allegedly making direct and indirect approaches to IPL stakeholders, posing as an avid fan.
His tactics, as per the ACSU, are subtle but sinister gifting expensive items, inviting participation at high-end parties, and even contacting the family members of players and officials via social media. The aim is to build personal relationships which can later be abused for corrupt ends.
Modus Operandi: Gifts, Glamour, and Social Media Outreach
The person is allegedly employing various means to charm IPL players and staff. Such means involve:- Giving costly jewelry and gifts and escorting players and staff to costly parties and events.
Approaching family members via Instagram and other sites and appearing at team hotels and stadiums to establish direct contact actions have raised significant alarm, especially as many of the encounters reportedly involved gifts bestowed on IPL team player families.
ACSU Calls for Vigilance Amid Technological Challenges
The ACSU has pointed out the increasing challenge of tracking corrupt methods with the advancements in digital technology. Advanced methods and internet-based platforms have enabled malicious players to easily access players and support staff.
Therefore, the unit has asked all IPL teams and stakeholders to be extremely cautious and report any suspicious activities or gifts received regardless of how informal they are.
BCCI Strengthens Pledge of Integrity
With these events, the BCCI re-affirmed its zero-tolerance approach against corruption in cricket. A board statement reiterated that all necessary measures will be taken to safeguard the integrity of the IPL and that even a minor breach will be investigated thoroughly.
“The BCCI is keen to have a corruption-free tournament and would never accept any activity that is detrimental to the game’s integrity,” the statement said.
IPL 2025 Remains Under the Scanner
The warning comes as the IPL 2025 season reaches its key moments with a grand final on May 25 at Eden Gardens, Kolkata. With billions of fans and millions on the line, the BCCI needs to remind everyone that the fight for fair play exists beyond the field.
