Cricket fans worldwide were stunned by the recent allegations against former Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan. Shakib has been named in a murder case filed by Rafiqul Islam, whose son Rubel was killed on August 7 during ongoing protests in Bangladesh. The complaint was lodged with the Adabor police station in Dhaka, listing Shakib as the 28th accused among a total of 154 individuals, including former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
Currently, Shakib is in Rawalpindi participating in the first Test of a two-match series against Pakistan. In response, Rafiqul Islam’s legal team has demanded Shakib’s immediate removal from the series.
Legal Action Against Shakib

A legal notice has been issued to the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), requesting that Shakib be banned from all cricket activities. BCB President Faruque Ahmed mentioned that a decision regarding Shakib will be made after the conclusion of the first Test.
“Regarding Shakib, a case has been filed, but we have not yet received any legal notice. The FIR was filed, and there will be an investigation that could influence the case’s direction,” Faruque told reporters.
Decision Pending Test Conclusion
Faruque Ahmed added that, given the ongoing Test match, the board has not yet decided on Shakib’s status. “We are currently in the midst of a Test match, and it is promising that we performed well on the fourth day. Tomorrow is the fifth and decisive day. We haven’t considered a stance yet. Once the game concludes, we will discuss and decide. By then, we expect to receive and review the legal notice,” he explained.
Board’s Upcoming Decision
Faruque also noted that the BCB will make a decision during the break between the first and second Tests, starting on August 30.
“The FIR is merely an initial document, and no charges have been formally made yet, so it’s challenging to make a decision at this point. The BCB’s relationship with Shakib is contractual, akin to that between an employer and an employee. We will carefully consider the legal notice once we receive it. We cannot pull him out of the ongoing Test match,” he added.
“The second Test begins on August 30, providing a gap during which we can address this matter,” Faruque concluded.
