Axar Patel missed a moment of his lifetime as he got spectacularly close to a hat-trick during his spell against Bangladesh in the ICC Champions Trophy on 20 February 2025 after Rohit Sharma missed a crucial catch.

Axar was introduced in the ninth over with Bangladesh struggling at 35 runs for 3 wickets. He arrived at the right moment, and on his second ball, he took Tanzid Hassan’s wicket. On the very next ball, he dismissed Mushfiqur Rahim as wicketkeeper KL Rahul took the ball.

The crowd quickly roared with excitement and impatience as they waited for a hat-trick. However, Rohit Sharma, who was placed perfectly, fumbled and missed an easy catch. Frustrated, he vented his anger as he stuck to the ground several times, after which Axar was seen visibly disappointed.

Rohit Sharma, realising his big mistake walked to Axar and apologised. Axar Patel kept his composure and let it go finishing the over by 2/1.

Fans trolled the captain for his disappointing miss and posted on Twitter.

 

 

Bangladesh is now at 164 runs for 5 wickets. Whether or not the captain’s miss will cost India its first win of the tournament, we will know in a while.
