After Beth Mooney’s brilliant innings, Megan Schutt and Annabel Sutherland’s excellent bowling helped Australia beat New Zealand by 60 runs in the Group A match of the Women’s T20 World Cup. Australia batted first and scored 148 runs for eight wickets in 20 overs. In response, the entire New Zealand team was bowled out for 88 runs in 19.2 overs.

Chasing the target, New Zealand lost wickets from the beginning. For New Zealand, opener Suzie Bates and top-order batsman Amelia Kerr played some composed innings. Kerr scored the highest 29 runs with the help of three fours in 31 balls, while Bates played an innings of 20 runs in 27 balls. Apart from these two batsmen, only Leah Tahuhu could reach double figures and scored 11 runs. For New Zealand, Shut and Sutherland took three wickets each, while Sophie Molineux took two and Georgia Wareham and Tahlia McGrath got one wicket each.

Earlier, Australia won the toss and decided to bat first and captain Alyssa Healy gave a good start to the team along with Beth Mooney. Healy scored 26 runs in 20 balls and Mooney scored 40 runs in 32 balls.

After the dismissal of these two, however, no batsman could survive except Ellyse Perry (30). For New Zealand, leg-spinner Amelia Kerr took four wickets for 26 runs in four overs, while Rosemary Meyer and Brooke Halliday got two wickets each.
