Maheesh Theekshana, a particularly strong bowler for Sri Lanka during the powerplay, was unproductive today. Mohammad Naim played the anchor, while Mehidy Hasan Miraz was the aggressor. 47 runs were scored during the power play. Dasun Shanaka leads from the front

In the fourth over of the innings, Dasun Shanaka received the new ball. He bowled four overs during the powerplay, but immediately following it, he broke the opening stand’s 50-run partnership. Miraz attempted to draw a back-of-the-length delivery off him, but it connected with the splice and went for a catch at mid-wicket instead. Later, Shanaka succeeded in firing Naim as well. He got ejected while playing the pull shot on another short ball.

The most significant wicket of Bangladesh’s innings was then taken by Matheesha Pathirana. Shakib Al Hasan, the captain of Bangladesh, was given out initially but was then dismissed by Pathirana. Despite the commotion, umpire Jayaraman Madanagopal decided in the batter’s favour. Due to a spike that occurred when the ball was adjacent to the bat and on the ultra-edge, the decision was reversed as a result of the review. After dismissing Litton Das, Dunith Wellalage reduced Bangladesh to 83 runs for the cost of four wickets.

Towhid Hridoy’s fighting knock goes in vain

Towhid Hridoy played a magnificent fighting knock, however, it was ineffective because Bangladesh was trounced by the hosts. Hridoy scored 82 runs in 97 balls, although the opposition offered hardly any assistance. Before the Bangladeshi wicketkeeper was removed by the Sri Lankan captain, he and Mushfiqur Rahim established a 72-run partnership. Despite losing wickets, his knock maintained Bangladesh in the chase. He had seven fours and one six in his knock.

After getting his first wicket of the match by dismissing Shamim Hossain, Maheesh Theekshana took the wicket of Hridoy. After that, Taskin Ahmed was dismissed. This trio of wickets were all LBW. Shoriful Islam was then removed by Pathirana with a full-length delivery that crashed into the stumps. He then struck out the final batter, Nasum Ahmed, with a precisely placed yorker.
