Former Pakistan Cricket Team captain, Ramiz Raja has advised the Pakistan team to be mentally switched off during the days between the two matches. The former Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman suggested the ‘Men in Green’ to move on from the humungous defeat they suffered against arch-rivals, India.
India defeated Pakistan by a record margin of 228 runs. India set a target of 357 runs for Pakistan. The Indian bowlers then produced a great performance led by spinner Kuldeep Yadav. Virat Kohli scored his 77th century and became the fastest cricketer to reach the milestone of 13,000 runs. Alongside, Kohli, KL Rahul also scored his 6th ODI century on his return to the national team.
Ramiz Raja advises rest to the Pakistan team
Ramiz Raja on his YouTube channel talked about how India’s victory over Sri Lanka had helped Pakistan’s chances of qualifying to the finals. Had India lost against Sri Lanka, the chances of Pakistan for qualifying the finals would have been very slim. Many fans alleged that the Indian team had fixed the match and was intentionally trying to lose the game. Shoaib Akhtar talked about these allegations and dismissed them by saying that the allegations were baseless and stupid.
Ramiz while talking on his YouTube channel talked about how taking necessary rest before the match against Sri Lanka is crucial. Ramiz said, “India has given Pakistan a ray of hope with the win over Sri Lanka. Now we’ve to see if Pakistan can take benefit from that, or whether they will be low on spirits because of the defeat against India. They need some time off the game, they have to be mentally switched off, and they have a reserve day. They’ve got a good two-day rest period where they shouldn’t think of cricket or the defeat but get together and talk.”
Ramiz Raja: Stay off social media
Ramiz also talked about the role of social media in today’s day and age. He talked about how the Babar Azam-led team needs to stay off social media to avoid negativity. The former PCB chief also said that watching television channels won’t do any good to the psyche of the players and will only affect them negatively. Ramiz said, “Don’t touch social media, don’t watch television channels. There won’t be anything good there because the whole of Pakistan is disappointed. Get united. You point fingers at each other after such defeats, that too against India. That shouldn’t happen. I’m sure Babar Azam has united this team really well, and his work is to assure his players and get the team high in spirit ahead of the Sri Lanka clash.”
