The first wicket was taken by Jasprit Bumrah, who also persuaded Pathum Nissanka to hit a pitch to KL Rahul. Then, Bumrah displayed his talent by bowling Kusal Mendis a slower ball variation. Sri Lanka’s prospects of winning appeared slim at 99-6. At that point, Dunith Wellalage, the first inning’s hero, entered the batter’s box. With a good strike rate, Wellalage and Dhananjaya de Silva created a fantastic relationship. 75 balls were shared throughout their 63-run stand. Their alliance nearly allowed Sri Lanka to enter the contest. After scoring 41 runs in 66 balls, an important innings, Dhananjaya was out. Maheesh Theekshana persisted for a while before handing Hardik Pandya his wicket.
