In terms of Asia Cup record, Team India is the most successful. The Indian team now has seven Asia Cup titles to its name (1984, 1988, 1990-91, 1995, 2010, 2016, 2018), and they will be looking for their eighth title when they face archrivals Pakistan on August 28, 2022.

With only three teams competing (India, Sri Lanka, and Pakistan), Gavaskar’s India faced Sri Lanka in the final and won the trophy for the first time. Only a year after their famous victory at Lord’s against the mighty West Indies in 1983, team India lived up to their title as World Champions, dominating the tournament and finishing first in the points table. They won both of their matches, earning eight valuable points and eventually being crowned champions. Surinder Khanna had an outstanding tournament, scoring 107 runs and winning the “Player of the Tournament” award.
