Asia Cup 2022: In the Asian Tournament, Team India has consistently dominated and outplayed the opposition. The Asia Cup is quickly approaching, and the blue brigade appears poised to dominate. India, the defending champion, will look to defend their title and continue on the path that will lead them to the World T20I, which will be played in Australia later this year. This year’s Asia Cup will be played in a 20-over format, and all participating Asian nations will get a taste of what the World Cup may have in store for them. The participating teams may view this event as an opportunity to finalise their plans and preparations, but they will certainly play out of their skins to outplay their opponents and stamp their authority on the multi-nation cricketing tournament.

In terms of Asia Cup record, Team India is the most successful. The Indian team now has seven Asia Cup titles to its name (1984, 1988, 1990-91, 1995, 2010, 2016, 2018), and they will be looking for their eighth title when they face archrivals Pakistan on August 28, 2022.
The tournament will be played in a double round-robin format, followed by a final. Team India’s dominance in this cricketing carnival dates back to 1984, when the blue brigade won the championship for the first time under the leadership of Sunil Gavaskar. With only three teams competing (India, Sri Lanka, and Pakistan), Gavaskar’s India faced Sri Lanka in the final and won the trophy for the first time. Only a year after their famous victory at Lord’s against the mighty West Indies in 1983, team India lived up to their title as World Champions, dominating the tournament and finishing first in the points table. They won both of their matches, earning eight valuable points and eventually being crowned champions. Surinder Khanna had an outstanding tournament, scoring 107 runs and winning the “Player of the Tournament” award.

After 38 years and major advancements in the game since Gavaskar led the Indian team to their first Asia Cup title, Rohit Sharma and company will soon embark on their journey to win their eighth Asia Cup trophy. Senior players who were rested for the Zimbabwe tour, including Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Ravindra Jadeja, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, and others, have gathered in the United Arab Emirates to hone their skills ahead of the marquee Indo-Pak clash. In the absence of regular coach Rahul Dravid, aka the wall, VVS Laxman has been named interim Head Coach, and he will try to ensure that he and his methods produce positive results for Team India.
