Alyssa Healy, the wicketkeeper for Sydney Sixers and the vice-captain of the Australian women’s cricket team, will miss the entire Women’s Big Bash League season due to a finger injury.

Healy suffered a severe laceration on her right index finger when attempting to separate her puppies at home, as one of them bit her. The injury necessitated immediate surgery, leaving her unable to participate in the WBBL.

Expressing her disappointment, Healy said, “This is not the news I was hoping for because I love playing in the WBBL and I love the Sydney Sixers.” She also added that her focus would now be on a full recovery and returning to play when the time is right. Healy plans to support her team during her absence.

The timeline for her return remains uncertain, and her playing comeback will be determined in the coming weeks as she progresses through rehabilitation.

Healy, serving as the interim captain for Australia, is currently aiming to recover in time for Australia’s tour of India in December. This situation has arisen after Meg Lanning was ruled out for medical reasons, as determined by Cricket Australia’s medical team, and remains unavailable for selection.
