Abdul Rahman, a 21-year-old medium fast bowler who has never played in an international match, has been selected for Afghanistan’s one-day squad for a three-match series in Sri Lanka early next month. The majority of the regulars are in the squad, and there are some IPL players among the 15, including Rashid Khan, Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Noor Ahmad, and Fazalhaq Farooqi.
Series schedule
1st ODI: June 2
2nd ODI: June 4
3rd ODI: June 7th
All matches to be played in Hambantota
In contrast to Sri Lanka, which must participate in qualifiers in Zimbabwe and hope to finish in the top two to make the international tournament, Afghanistan has qualified directly for the 2023 ODI World Cup, which will be held in India later this year.
The Afghanistan Cricket Board chair, Mirwais Ashraf, made the following statement as the ICC Cricket World Cup preparations got underway: “It’s good to have a couple of young faces for the series. We are taking advantage of every opportunity to put together a strong team and get them ready for the event.
Mohammad Nabi, Rashid, Rahmat Shah, Najibullah Zadran, Ibrahim Zadran, and Mujeeb Ur Rahman are all on the team, along with the captain Hashmatullah Shahidi. Shahidullah Kamal, Yamin Ahmadzai, Zia Ur Rahman Akbar, and Gulbadin Naib are the reserves.
The bowling seems to be especially strong. In addition to Rashid, Mujeeb, and Nabi, who are ranked Nos. 6, 8, and 10 in the ICC ODI bowlers rankings, there is Noor, who had an outstanding debut IPL season with Gujarat Titans, and Farooqi, who will be the leader of the fast bowling attack. Noor also had an impressive IPL season last year. Rahman enters the game after putting on a strong performance for Hindukush Strikers in the ongoing domestic one-day tournament in Afghanistan, where he has seven wickets in five games and a 5.81 economy rate.
