
AB de Villiers, the former South African Cricketer, announces his highly anticipated comeback in the cricket world after 4 years. Cricket fans all over the world are set to celebrate his return to the World Championship of Legends (WCL) as he plays for the South African team.
De Villiers is one of the most legendary cricketers in the sports world and is considered to be the best batsman of his era. He was ranked the number 1 batsman in Tests and ODIs and remained the same for more than any of his competitors. He is popularly known as Mr. 360 due to his ability to play shorts around the wicket. He is an attacking batsman with exceptional fielding.

De Villiers announced retirement from his career in cricket in 2021 after the India Premier League (IPL), stating that he has started to lose his vision due to an injury caused while playing with his younger child. Fans have been waiting for his return for 4 years now, and the wait is finally over.

On 28 January 2025, he took to his Twitter to inform his fans of his return. Upon his return, he said,
“Four years ago, I retired from all cricket because I just didn’t feel the urge to play any more. Well, time has passed, and my young sons have started playing the game. We’ve been playing more and more often in the garden, and, well, it feels as though some kind of flame has been lit again,” as quoted from a release by WCL.
“Can’t wait to renew rivalry with so many legends from five other countries. I’m heading to the gym… and the nets!”, he added to his Twitter.
He will be returning as the captain of the South African team in the upcoming season of World Championship of Legends (WCL).

AB de Villiers’ return as our captain is a monumental boost for our team, and his leadership will undoubtedly inspire us to new heights,” Amandeep Singh who is the co-owner of South Africa Champions & Founder of Game Changers, expressed his enthusiasm.
