Former South African cricketer AB de Villiers issued a public apology on Friday for disseminating “false information” regarding Virat Kohli and Anushka Sharma expecting their second child. De Villiers, known for his camaraderie with Kohli from their time at Royal Challengers Bangalore, expressed regret for the misinformation that contributed to speculation about Kohli missing the initial Tests against England.

Addressing the change in his stance, AB de Villiers emphasized the priority of family and acknowledged his mistake, stating, “Absolutely family comes first, it’s a priority, as I said on my YouTube show. Also, I made a terrible mistake at the same time and yeah, sharing false information which was not true at all. No one knows what’s happening.”

The South African batsman urged well-wishes for Kohli, emphasizing the global cricket community’s support and hoping for the Indian cricket stalwart’s swift return in good health.

Initially, De Villiers had indicated Kohli’s absence was due to impending family matters, drawing criticism from Indian cricket enthusiasts. As per recent reports, Kohli’s break from the England series is expected to extend, with the skipper likely to miss the third and fourth Tests in Rajkot and Ranchi.

The situation has left cricket followers curious about the selectors’ decision for the upcoming matches and whether the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will provide clarity on Kohli’s absence with “true information.”
