IPL: These Teams Successfully Defended Low Scores in IPL Finals

In this post, we’ll look at some of the teams that had success defending low scores in IPL finals.

Any team would find it difficult to defend a low score in the IPL Finals. The Indian Premier League (IPL) is one of the world’s most popular and fiercely contested T20 leagues, and the tournament finals are always high-pressure spectacles. Teams in this circumstance frequently must rely on their bowlers to provide spectacular performances and their fielders to be sharp and vigilant. In this post, we’ll look at some of the teams that had success defending low scores in IPL finals.

Mumbai Indians- 129 in 2017

In the 2017 IPL final, Mumbai Indians batted first and scored only 129 runs against the now-defunct Rising Pune Supergiant (RPSG). Krunal Pandya led the way for MI, scoring 47 runs in 38 balls. For RPSG, Jaydev Unadkat, Adam Zampa, and Daniel Christian each grabbed two wickets. Washington Sundar also bowled well, allowing only 13 runs in four overs.

In the second innings, RPSG got off to a fast start, with opener Ajinkya Rahane scoring 44 runs in 38 balls and their skipper, Steven Smith, scoring 51 runs in 50 balls. Mitchell Johnson grabbed three wickets for MI, while Jasprit Bumrah took two. Krunal Pandya was named Man of the Match for his batting performance and economical bowling.

Deccan Chargers- 143 in 2009

Deccan Chargers got off to the worst possible start in the IPL 2009 Final, as Adam Gilchrist, their arguably greatest player of the series, was dismissed in the first three balls. Herschelle Gibbs, their opener, scored 53 runs off 48 balls. Anil Kumble opened the bowling with the ball and captured four wickets while allowing only 16 runs in four overs.

Roelof van der Merwe led the RCB scoring with 32 runs in 21 balls in the second innings. Ross Taylor hit 27 home runs in 20 balls. Pragyan Ojha claimed three wickets for the DC squad while allowing 28 runs in four overs. But it was arguably the bowling efforts of RP Singh and Harmeet Singh that won them the game. They handed up 39 runs and took 3 wickets in their combined 8 overs. Despite being on the losing side, Anil Kumble was named Man of the Match.

Mumbai Indians- 148 in 2013

Mumbai Indians were in their second IPL final when they faced off against Chennai Super Kings, who had the most titles at the time and were in their fourth consecutive final.

Mumbai Indians batted first and lost four wickets in 9.3 overs for a total of 52 runs. Kieron Pollard, the great West Indian all-rounder, entered the field with four wickets down. Pollard led MI in scoring with 60 runs in 32 balls. Dwayne Bravo collected four wickets for CSK despite allowing 42 runs in four overs. Albie Morkel was their most economical bowler, bowling three overs and conceding only 12 runs while claiming two wickets.

CSK got off to a horrible start in the second innings, losing four wickets in the first six overs with 35 runs on the board. As they were 6 down for 39 runs, the match slipped further from their grasp. MS Dhoni batted alone and hit 63 runs in 45 balls to remain unbeaten.
