3 Popular ‘Mankad’ done by the bowlers in World Cricket

The ‘Mankading’ is the run out of a batsman by the bowler who is standing at the non striker’s end, basically it is not an illegal stuff to do in world cricket but still it doesn’t fall under the sphere of ethnicity and morality of the sport. Its name is portrayed on the name of famous Indian cricketer Vinoo Mankad who was the first man to do ‘Mankading’ in cricket. 

Vinoo Mankad had run out Bill Brown, the middle order batter of Australia, when India was touring the country in the year 1947. The mankad of Ravichandran Ashwin is the most popular one in India where he clinched the wickets of Lahiru Thirimanne  and Jos Buttler. #1. R.Ashwin’s ‘Mankad’ to Lahiru Thirimanne (2012).

The veteran Indian off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin had mankaded the Sri-lankan opener Lahiru Thirimanne in a famous ODI clash. During the CB series of 2012, the second fixture between India and Sri Lanka was in progress at the Brisbane Cricket Stadium, thus in the 40th over of the first innings, Ravichandran Ashwin ran out Thirimanne at the non striker’s end. This was the first biggest mankad in international cricket, which created a buzz about this controversial stuff.

After checking at the big display third umpire had given out Lahiru thirimanne which made him so upset over the surprising move played by Ravichandran Ashwin. 

 

#2. Sachithra Senanayake’s ‘Mankad’ to Jos Buttler (2014).

The Sri-lankan wizard bowler Sachithra Senanayake ran out the English finisher Jos Buttler during the 5th ODI of the Royal ODI international series of 2014 between England and Sri Lanka. The batsman at the striker’s end along with the victim of mankad Jos Buttler have got warnings from Senanayake before hammering the baills at the second time.

Jos Buttler was so many inches ahead from the crease when Senanayake came into bowl Chris Jordan, but after looking at Buttler’s  stance he thrashed the stumps and appeal for the dismissal. 

 

#3. Kapil Dev’s ‘Mankad’ to Peter Kirsten (1992).

The great Indian all rounder Kapil Dev had mankaded the South African batsman Peter Kirsten while he was totally unaware about the gesture of Kapil when he took the jump to deliver the ball. 

After taking off the bails the umpires gave the sanction to the appeal made by Kapil Dev, which left the South African batsman angry on the decision given by the two on field judges. This incident came out during the third one day international game between India and South Africa which Proteas had subjugated by six wickets at the end.
